Falcon Manor…a brief history

Falcon Manor as we know it today was built in 1841 for the Reverend Swale with money provided by his two grandmothers. They were anxious to create a property that was befitting his status in the local community and they certainly achieved what they set out to do. They also donated £500 toward the cost of building the new Settle church on the basis that their grandson could be the first incumbent. They certainly had plans for their grandson!

Originally named Ingfield Hall, after the field in which it was built, no one is absolutely sure when the name was changed to the altogether more imaginative and evocative Falcon Manor, but it wasn’t until after 1921. So it’s been the Falcon Manor for a good few years and that’s what we’ll be calling it for a good few years to come.

The James’ Places Group bought the hotel in 2014 and undertook a full refurbishment program that saw the fabulous original features exposed and restored once more. These features are complimented by wonderful wallpapers and soft furnishings, plus furniture and accessories all in our own unique style.

We hope you’ll agree the finished result is both dramatic and romantic and really quite beautiful to behold, much like is architects and builders intended it to be. With interesting menus from a brigade of talented chefs, thoughtful wine lists and friendly, unstuffy service from a great front of house team, the reborn Falcon Manor aims to be something truly special.
