Don't Hang Around To Get Hitched

With the Christmas holidays the most popular time to get engaged, couples who opt for a Harry and Meghan style ‘quick hitch’ could also save money.

According to hospitality group James’ Places expert wedding planner, Joanna Wright – job title chief dream maker –not only is it perfectly possible to plan a day to remember in a few months, but it makes financial sense.

Said Joanna: “Many couples believe that they need more than 12 months to organise their dream day, but this is not always the case. With expert help and advice from our team, even the biggest of wonderful weddings can be sorted out to the last detail in six months – sometimes less. If Harry and Meghan can do it in six months, then so can anyone else.

“It is also a savvy move as couples can take advantage of 2018 prices.”

Surveys from Facebook and Chillisauce* both reported Christmas Eve as the UK’s favourite time for proposals – more popular than Valentine’s Day. Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve were also prime dates for going down on one knee. This means January and February are the best months for making the most of the winter love rush and start planning the big day.

Said Joanna: “For couples booking 2018 dates early in the New Year, there are some fantastic deals to be had. At Falcon Manor, our beautiful country house hotel in Settle, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, we have just launched our ‘Married At The Manor’ package which features a sumptuous wedding breakfast for 50 guests plus an evening party for 50 family and friends for just £5,000.”

Joanna also had some tips for brides and bridegrooms-to-be planning their big day in less than a year:

·         Your dream maker is your best friend.

·         Book your cake early – the best cooks and decorators are in high demand and cake making takes time. Maybe consider a less time-consuming bake than a traditional fruit cake?

·         Send out ‘Save The Date’ notes as soon as possible.

·         Consider going on honeymoon at a later date.

·         Ideas are all over the internet – Pinterest is a great – and instant – place to search for inspiration.

·         Consider getting married on a different day of the week to a weekend. Fridays are cheaper than Saturdays, but other weekdays cost less than a Friday and tend to have greater availability.

Couples can find out more about Falcon Manor’s wedding package at the hotel’s next wedding fairs, on January 28 and February 25.
